Seven Stars Pumpkin Competition 2016.

Seven Stars Pumpkin Competition 2016.

On the 23rd of October  the Famous Seven Stars Pumpkin Competition was held by Beckbury Allotments. The event was sponsored by Renew of Grindle.

We had a fantastic set of entries in three different classes.  Adults, Children and a special class opened by the Allotment Association this year for Beckbury School.  Beckbury School have been working with the allotments throughout 2016 and produced 4 entries. Beau Mountford’s pumpkin weighed a very impressive 56lb and she took home the Inaugural Beckbury School Pumpkin Trophy.  Hopefully this will become and annual engagement with the school with many more pupils taking home the trophy in future years.  The children’s category was won by Luca Tinkler for the second year running improving on his entry last year with a whopping lbs.

Dave Cattell took first prize of £100 for his monster pumpkin weighing 268lbs. This was  Daves first time of taking the converted Beckbury Shield having only managed 5th place last year.

The day went well with a raffle and apple crushing also taking place.  Children were able to crush and make there own apple juice in a custom made cider press.  This year the raffle held during the event helped to raise another £50 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation helping children with Cancer so thank you to all who bought tickets and made it possible to support this important charity.

We look forward to next years competition and if you would like further information on how to enter or get involved please contact Mark Spickernell, Beckbury Allotments Association.
