Lilleshall Abbey

Officers from the Newport Safer Neighbourhood Team and the West Mercia Rural Crime Team met with a representative from English Heritage at Lilleshall Abbey this morning to discuss ways of working together to tackle heritage crime.

The Abbey site itself is classed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and has been subject recently to several instances of unlawful metal detecting over a number of nights.

Aside from those taking part in the activity not seeking to gain the landowners permission, it is in fact a criminal offence to detect and dig at the site under any circumstances.

Anyone with information relating to such activity at Lilleshall Abbey is asked to contact the Newport SNT at newport.snt@westmercia.pnn.police.uk or free and anonymously via Crimestoppers at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
