Beckbury Community Shop Share Application Form

Beckbury has planning permission to open a community shop next to the village hall!

Now we need to raise some money!

How can you help?

Buy a £10 share (or several)!

About the shop

  • The shop will be managed and run by volunteers from our community
  • It will provide a local newsagent, grocery store and small cafe area
  • Any profits will be reinvested in the shop and other community initiatives

About buying a share

  • Buying a share (or multiple shares) means you can have a say in how the shop society is run
  • Each member will have one vote at the shop AGM, regardless of the number of shares they own
  • A household can have more than one member
  • Members must be over 18
  • There will be no dividend payable on the shares, but we will all benefit because Beckbury will have a shop
  • You do not need to be a member to shop in the shop!
  • Please return application forms by the end of April 2017

The small print

  • We estimate we need to raise at least £20,000 to open the shop. This will be from a combination of shares, grants and donations.  If we do not reach this total the money will be returned to you
  • Beckbury Community Shop is a Community Benefit Society registered with the Financial Conduct Authority, Registration number 7440
  • Members may be allowed to withdraw their investment at a later date, and this is set out in the society’s rules
  • You may get back less than you invested, or lose your investment entirely if the project fails
  • Your liability buying a share is limited to your initial investment only
  • Further information and the Shop Business Plan can be found at the parish website beckburyparish.co.uk

Other progress

  • We are applying for grants and undertaking other fundraising
  • We have designed a building and identified a suitable supplier in Shropshire
  • A local resident has offered to undertake the preparatory groundworks
  • Our volunteer list is sufficient and growing. Please let us know if you think you could help with stock deliveries, maintenance, a shift in the shop, providing products for the shop, etc
  • We are grateful for the support of the Plunkett Foundation, Beckbury Parish Council and The Beckbury Show
